Chris Hunter
Co-Founder
Chris Hunter is a 48-year-old native New Yorker, now resident in Miami. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Rutgers University (B.S. summa cum laude), and subsequently completed graduate studies at both Columbia and London Business Schools.
The first 20 years of his career were spent in the cleantech industry. Starting from 2007 Chris was head of the U.S. investment business for the largest private equity firm in the industry: London-based Climate Change Capital ($2B AUM). Subsequently, he founded and led two solar energy companies — both of which were successfully sold to European private equity firms.
During the past decade, Chris has been a very active Angel investor — largely across the energy, hospitality, and fintech sectors. At the same time, he has continued to create new global businesses. His primary focus in recent years has been to accelerate worldwide consumer adoption for one of the most important technologies ever invented: Bitcoin.
Since 2019 he has created three (3) high-profile Bitcoin companies: Galoy, Blink and Satoshi. These business are backed by some of of the top U.S. venture capitalists, including David Sacks' Craft Ventures.
Chris' work at Galoy and Blink had a strong hand in El Salvador becoming the first and only country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. The story of this work in El Salvador was chronicled in a long-form CBS 60 Minutes feature segment that aired in 2022. He is now focused on building and leading Satoshi — designed to be the foremost global Bitcoin bank.
In addition to being the founder of three Bitcoin companies, Chris has also been one of the most prolific Angel investors in the industry. He has written large “first checks” directly supporting more than 40 companies building on Bitcoin.
