Digital Tax Counsel

Kristin Stroud is a North Carolina tax attorney, CPA, and founder of Digital Tax Counsel (DTC), which provides tax and legal consulting and content services with a focus on international tax, digital assets, blockchain, and crypto.

Representative clients include a large decentralized oracle network, dApp developers, DAOs, miners, payment processors, crypto accounting subledgers, taxation software developers and HNW individuals.

In response to demand from clients and fellow practitioners, DTC expanded its service offering in early 2024 to produce social content, newsletters, and educational material for web3 companies and their accounting and legal advisors. Kristin ‘ghostwrites’ content on her clients’ behalf, saving them time by educating their clients and customers on the regulatory, legal and tax implications of blockchain technology.

Following eight years in international tax (most recently with Ernst and Young), Kristin opened her own firm to focus on tax technology and digital asset clients. She spearheaded the development of international tax calculations for Bloomberg Tax software. Prior to obtaining a master’s degree in accounting and joining the Big4, Kristin litigated civil matters in state court.

Kristin believes one must ‘do’ crypto to competently advise others. A recovering ‘degen’ (she began investing during DeFi Summer 2020 before quickly moving to a more conservative portfolio strategy), she frequently speaks on digital asset taxation and regulation. She is Co-Chair of the North Carolina Blockchain Initiative, and recently worked to educate the NC Legislature on blockchain fundamentals, resulting in bicameral passage of NC’s first anti-CBDC bill.
